A perk of being in the Communication Arts program in my school is being able to utilize the studio as much as we can for practice. With super minimal knowledge on studio lighting, my friends and I took on a challenge of shooting with a limited set up. On that day, Mar and Nigel just wanted photos for their portfolio... I simply didn't want to go to class, hence the impromptu shoot. (Read on for more photos!)
Last February 22, I shot my first ever studio shoot as part of my project on portraits. I took the risk of shooting despite not knowing anything about studio lighting. Mang Norman just gave me tips on how to distance a subject from a wall to avoid shadows and work with whatever light I had.
My subjects for this shoot were the Pasig Paulinians in DLSU. All it took were common break times and Chef Tony's Popcorn. Also, most of the photos ended up having the same vibe as Bench's Love All Kinds Of Love campaign. (How fitting for St. Paul HAHAHA)
Well, we tried being serious but what I love most about this shoot is the candidness of everything. I'm not a big fan of posed shots so, this was just a fairly nice try.
Barely surviving CAM but I LOVE MY COURSE I LOVE COMM ARTS (despite having the crippling self-doubt and the urge to shift to a business course.)
We've been shooting in the studio a few weeks before our official class on studio lighting so our prior knowledge really helped. With Miss Jaja Samaniego's guidance, we were able to try out different lighting set-ups and use the soft-box (which the studio forebode us to use since we had no clue how to use the triggers and shit.) A difficulty I encountered was simply the focusing. It's extra challenging to work on Manual focus since my 50mm's practically for film but we ended up really liking the photos! (Ariana Grande's My Everything kept playing in my head while we presented the last few photos.)
I still have not gotten the hang of portraiture because I have no clue how to direct a subject. It's going to take a while to get used to but I'm liking where this is all going! (Hit me up and let's shoot!)
